Hetzner proxmox does not boot after update

How to fix Hetzner Proxmox not booting after kernel update

If you are using Hetzner version of Proxmox installation you and havent restarted your server after update you just need to type

grub-mkdevicemap -n

But if your server is not booting anymore after update you need to boot into linux rescue 64 bit and fix it

After booting in recue you should find your main partition mine is /dev/md2 and /boot was at /dev/md1 so to mount it I need to type

mount /dev/md2 /mnt/
chroot-prepare /mnt/
mount /dev/md1 /mnt/boot

chroot /mnt /bin/bash

update-initramfs -v -u -k 2.6.32-19-pve
grub-mkdevicemap -n

  1. Hi,

Thank you very much for your help, i had the exact same problem and you technique helped me, i just had to adapt the paths to my configuration, the kernel version to the last one and to add :
    grub-install /dev/sda
    grub-install /dev/sdb
    juste before the update-grub

Anyway, it really helped me saving time, thank you
